On 18 September, the Chair of Chemistry Education invited interested residents of Osnabrück to the Experimentiermeile 2026 [Experimentation Mile 2026] at the Ledenhof. Alongside numerous projects from the natural sciences, the IMIS-based project “FuturMig – Science Space ‘Futures of Migration'” and the Transfer Project of the Collaborative Research Centre 1604 “Production of Migration” were also represented, offering visitors insights into the work of the humanities and social sciences.

More than 40 stalls lined up at the Ledenhof on 18 September, staffed by enthusiastic experimenters from nurseries and schools, the university, and Osnabrück-based companies. Under the motto “Carried by the whole city,” participants presented experiments for all age groups and invited visitors to get hands-on themselves.

FuturMig presented the life stories of five individuals under the title “OUT of the Box.” Using objects that symbolize upheaval, stability, and the future, Vera Hanewinkel, Feline Engling Cardoso, and Philipp Schäfer engaged visitors in discussions about what connects their own experiences to these life stories, and what a just future for all might look like. On a shared pinboard, visitors were able to exchange their concrete demands and visions with one another.

The Transfer Project “Reflexive Migration Research in the Museum” brought its VR headsets along and invited visitors to the Experimentiermeile to take part in its experiment “Changing Places.” In this experiment, participants are shown digital versions of the Osnabrück Peace Hall [Osnabrücker Friedenssaal] in virtual reality. The experiment investigates how the perception and identification potential of historically charged sites change when they appear different from usual.

Further opportunities to participate in the VR experiment are available each Wednesday on 7 October, 21 October, and 28 October from 12 noon to 6 p.m. in the foyer of the Student Centre (StudZ) on the Innenstadt campus. Appointments can be booked here.
